- Bio: Alisa Busch, MD, MS, is Director, Integration of Clinical Measurements and Health Services Research at McLean Hospital and Psychiatrist-in-Charge at McLean Hospital's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Partial Hospital Treatment Program. She is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Instructor in Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Busch's primary research interests are in mental health policy and services research. In particular, her interest is in measuring and improving treatment quality on a system-wide level so as to help translate the benefits of clinical research into usual care practice for patients with psychiatric illness. She has conducted research examining how the organization and financing of mental health care affects treatment quality in the public and private sectors and for various psychiatric illnesses such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and co-occurring substance use disorders. In 2004 she was awarded the McLean Hospital Alfred Pope Award for Young Investigators for her research examining the effect of a Medicaid managed behavioral health carve-out on quality of care for schizophrenia. Dr. Busch is a current recipient of a Career Development Award from the National Institute of Mental Health to conduct quality of care research. She is also a Network Associate in the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Mandated Community Treatment.
