Conditions characterized mainly by behavioral disturbances have previously been considered to be poorly understood and of little interest or relevance to medical scientists. In recent years, there has been an explosion in basic and applied neuroscience leading to an increased understanding of the biology of some behavioral disorders. These disturbances are now recognized as integral features, not just peripheral epiphenomena, of many neurologic disorders. The development of fields such as functional neurosurgery, cognitive/behavioral neurology, and neuropsychiatry have emphasized the existence of a shared body of knowledge which have encouraged complementary approaches. Knowledge of the biology of behavior is advancing rapidly and can now be used to accelerate more rational treatment and research into these conditions. - Curriculum vitæ: (PDF format)
