- Clinical Interests: I began my training in child psychiatry at McLean Hospital in 1979 and soon realized the severe scope of the shortage of needed services for youth and the many obstacles families face in trying to access those that do exist. During the ensuing twenty-five years, my main professional efforts have been designed to create a more comprehensive and rational system of clinical care and special education services for children and adolescents who are challenged by psychiatric and development disorders. My major foci have included: The creation and development of a wide array of therapeutic programs and schools; public advocacy and collaboration with state agencies; coordination with and training of primary care pediatricians in child mental health issues; sequentially serving on several child psychiatry residency training faculties; and a private practice that has allowed me to work with and follow a number of children and families for decades. In the private practice of individual and family therapy and psychopharmacology, I have had the honor of witnessing children and adolescents, with Down's Syndrome, Autism, and an array of psychiatric disorders and sequelae of abuse, become productive adults and, in some cases, parents themselves.
