Friends of McLean
A large voluntary organization of individuals involved in educating the community about stigma. The Friends, along with the McLean Social Work Department, sponsor the annual Priscilla Aikenhead lecture. The Friends also sponsor educational lectures in the Belmont community featuring McLean staff.

Continuing Education Department
The McLean Hospital Grand Rounds will be held weekly on Thursdays, from noon to 1 pm, in the deMarneffe 132 conference room on the McLean campus. The free presentations are made by well-known experts on academic, clinical or research topics in psychiatry and are open to the public. The department also offers tuition-based courses in psychiatry and neurology to health-care professionals and consumers. Continuing education credits for professionals of all disciplines are available. Registration is required.

Cole, MD, Mental Health Consumer Resource Center, a collaborative project of McLean Hospital and the Manic Depressive and Depressive Association of Boston (MDDA-Boston), stocks an extensive array of free resource materials on all psychiatric disorders; additional materials also are available at modest fees. Information on community mental health resources may be obtained at the center. Resource center staff also offers seminars on depression in the workplace to businesses of all sizes.

Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy is committed to educating patients and their families about medication uses, side effects, interactions with foods or medications and other contra-indications. The Pharmacy ensures that print-out sheets on medications are available to unit and program staff through the hospital's computer system. Patients may access this information through the program or unit staff. The Pharmacy also publishes two useful manuals that are available from clinicians:

Public Affairs Department
The Public Affairs Department contributes to the education of patients and families by publishing and disseminating information about McLean programs and services, psychiatric illness and treatment, educational opportunities and hospital resources. The department coordinates the McLean Speakers Bureau, which provides McLean Hospital staff as speakers to local community groups, other health organizations and the media.
