Consumer Education

A key to McLean's collaborative approach is patient and family education on mental health issues. McLean provides informational materials; a state-of-the-art resource center open to patients and their families; and treatment plans that routinely include patient education about diagnosis, treatment and preventative health care.

Community education is an equally strong commitment, with weekly academic conferences, public lectures taking place at McLean and dissemination of detailed brochures on various illnesses. The hospital hosts a variety of self-help groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Alzheimer's Support Group, the Manic Depressive and Depressive Association and the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation.

The hospital is home to the Jonathan O. Cole Mental Health Consumer Resource Center, one of the area's largest education centers run by and for consumers of mental health services.
