Course Description

Clinicians from McLean Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston have created
An Adolescent Mental Health & Wellness Curriculum: A Starter Kit for Schools
to guide educators in running a preventive mental health program either with or without outside (or onsite) mental health expertise. Its curriculum modules give adolescents language and insight to make better decisions and to know that problems are both temporary and treatable. The authors of this starter kit will spend the day with attendees in workshops on each curriculum module, covering stress, substance abuse, and depression.

This conference is suitable for all educators including student support coordinators, counselors, psychologists and nurses. Information will be presented in a user-friendly format that will encourage participation and will address specific questions about the rationale behind the curriculum and the pragmatics of implementing it in your schools.

Objectives

  • Discuss needs assessment for your school to determine its readiness.
  • Measure the emotional safety of a class in order to select the appropriate curriculum level for that class.
  • Practice with all three curriculum modules.
  • Discuss desired outcomes and measurements such as fewer students going to the Emergency Room.
  • Understand how to readily integrate the starter kit with ongoing health programs.
