GERIATRIC PSYCHIATRY IN 2007
Friday & Saturday
October 12-13, 2007
Course Description
This is a tremendously exciting time in geriatric psychiatry, as new advances and increasing knowledge are leading to improved care and management of patients. Keeping up with all of this information, however, is a daunting challenge, especially for practicing clinicians. McLean Hospital is pleased to offer Geriatric Psychiatry in 2007. This intensive, two-day course is designed to update participants in numerous aspects of geriatric psychiatry, including recent advances in the understanding and treatment of dementia, late-life psychosis, mood disorders and personality disorders. The course will cover a variety of treatment modalities, including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy as well as broader topics such as an overview of the importance of geriatric psychiatry, forensic issues, end-of-life issues, sexuality and exercise in the elderly. Our widely acclaimed faculty features internationally renowned speakers as well as clinicians in specialized practices. They will decisively review and synthesize recent advances in geriatric psychiatry in an easy-to-understand manner.
Course Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Better diagnose and manage mood disorders, dementia, psychosis and personality disorders in the geriatric population.
- Better understand medical aspects of geriatric psychiatry.
- Recommend exercise routines for patients.
- More easily discuss sexuality and end-of-life issues with patients.
