Renowned Researchers to Speak in Belmont

May 19, 2000 -- Belmont, MA -- McLean Hospital is sponsoring free presentations by two of the country’s most influential researchers in the fields of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and substance abuse.

"A New Look at ADHD and Ritalin Use," presented by Martin Teicher, MD, PhD, director of McLean’s Developmental Biopsychiatry Research Laboratory, will be on Thursday, May 25 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Belmont’s Winthrop Chenery Middle School.

Teicher is a pioneer in the diagnosis, treatment and research of ADHD. His development of cutting edge diagnostic tests for ADHD stems from his nearly 20 years of active research, both in and outside the laboratory.

"Teenagers & Substance Abuse," presented by Scott Lukas, PhD, director of McLean Hospital’s Clinical Neuropsychopharmacology Laboratory, will be Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Belmont’s Winthrop Chenery Middle School.

Lukas is conducting groundbreaking research into the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, hormones and behavior. His discoveries over the past 16 years have provided new insight into the causes of substance abuse, its grip on people and how to break the cycle of addiction.
