McLean Hospital offers an unparalleled variety of mental health and substance abuse programs on an attractive suburban campus just eight miles west of Boston. As a private, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital, McLean offers many specialty programs that may be tailored to individual needs.
Continuum of Care
McLean provides a full continuum of care to meet the needs of each patient at each stage of treatment. Services at McLean are designed to encourage the least restrictive level of care that is clinically appropriate. Coordination with outside clinicians, social service agencies and patient families helps to ensure a smooth transition among levels of care, encouraging re-integration into community-based life. Crisis intervention and short-term acute inpatient care is available to stabilize individuals by providing the highest quality medical and psychiatric resources. Acute inpatient treatment is provided in many of the hospital's clinical programs.
Comprehensive residential treatment is available for those who do not require the intensity of medical, psychiatric and nursing services offered in inpatient care.
McLean provides partial hospitalization services in a variety of different programs both on and off campus. Partial hospitalization is an intensive, psychotherapeutic-based program for patients who do not require full hospitalization, but who need a greater level of structure and therapeutic intensity than is available on an outpatient basis. Partial hospitalization combines intensive, personalized treatment with the opportunity for patients to test out what they are learning through independent functioning outside the hospital.
A comprehensive system of outpatient services provides flexible treatment options without hospitalization. McLean's outpatient services provide the highest quality mental health resources to meet a wide variety of needs. Outpatient services are generally provided for patients who are stepping down from more acute levels of care at McLean or are in a McLean residential program. Services for other persons are dependent on staff availability.
