The Transitional Living Center
Robin Weiss, RNC, Program DirectorMcLean's Transitional Living Center is a private-pay residential program designed for men and women, age 18 and older, who are involved in active psychiatric treatment and require a staff-supported residential setting. For many persons with psychiatric illness, brief hospital stays alone are not sufficient to fully recover and return to normal living. The Transitional Living Center provides a setting for comprehensive treatment, supporting family members by providing the intensive assistance that recovering patients require
Waverly House |
Located in Mill Street Lodge and Waverley House on McLean's Belmont campus, just outside Boston, the Transitional Living Center provides the structure and support individuals with psychiatric illness need to regain their health and resume their everyday lives. The program's primary mission is to provide a moderately structured living experience that complements residents' outpatient or partial hospital treatment while at the same time, helping them develop the skills they need to live independently in the community. This includes educating residents on the importance of taking responsibility for monitoring and managing their medications.
The Transitional Living Center offers assistance in designing a clinical program that fits residents' needs. Program-based case management is provided to each resident to ensure continuity of care with other members of the treatment team. Referrals can be made to experienced professionals for psychotherapy and medication management services.
Residents are expected to be either in treatment or transitioning back into the work environment. They may also participate in on-grounds programs, such as the Behavioral Health Partial Hospital Program, the Center for the Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder and the Women's Treatment Program. Specialized services are also available that focus on specialized areas, such as eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, and trauma and dissociative disorders.
Living Area |
Program-based meetings, groups and activities are available to all residents.
A consulting psychiatrist is available to meet with each individual resident
as needed. Experienced community residence counselors staff the program 24 hours

An individual's stay in the Transitional Living Center may be as brief as one
