THE CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PROGRAM (CAP)

Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program

The McLean Hospital Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program is a comprehensive, short-term program committed to providing a full range of direct services to adolescent substance abusers who are also addressing a wide variety of clinical concerns. Services include consultation, education, evaluation, acute residential care and outpatient group therapy. The program works closely with adolescents, their families and the community to provide aftercare services that will support a drug and alcohol free life experience.

Residential Services

Adolescent Acute Residential Treatment (ART)

The residential program provides 24-hour support to adolescents as they address their recovery and clinical issues. Structure is provided within a safe environment, where the goal is to teach autonomy without using substances. In addition, the 12-bed residential component provides adolescents with treatment groups and life-skill activities, which will assist them in their treatment and eventual transition back to the community.

Day Treatment

The day treatment program provides seven hours of services Monday through Friday. Adolescents attend a minimum of six groups a day, which aim to promote a healthy, safe and drug-free lifestyle. The groups may include psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and expressive arts. The adolescents work with staff and their families to find appropriate and effective outpatient groups and/or longer term placements that will assist them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and sobriety.

Daily and Weekly Structured Program Activities

The program provides activities for adolescents with a diagnosis of substance abuse or for those who have dual diagnoses of substance abuse and psychiatric issues. They include, but are not limited to:
