Camp New Connections is a four-week, summer day camp for children, ages 7 through 17, who have Asperger's Syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, pervasive developmental disorders and non-verbal learning disabilities. The camp, a component of McLean Hospital's Child and Adolescent Program (CAP), Center for Neurodevelopmental Services, is designed to help children develop social skills through fun activities, such as drama, arts and crafts, communication games, swimming and field trips-all within a therapeutic context. As part of the core camp curriculum, children receive direct instruction on social skills, body language and non-verbal communication, conversation, problem solving and awareness of self and others.

Camp New Connections, accredited by the American Camp Association, is a good match for children who can benefit from structure, small groups and individual attention. The camp is located at the Arlington School on the McLean Hospital campus.
Camp Hours:
Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm (pre-camp is from 8:30 am to 9 am and post-camp is from 2 pm to 4 pm). Both pre- and post-camp hours are included in the camp fee. Please click here for a sample daily schedule.

Cost of the four-week camp is $4,500, which may be funded privately or by the camper’s school system. A $25 application fee applies, which may be payable by check or credit card. Checks should be made payable to McLean Hospital.
Fee Includes:
- Pre- and post-camp hours.
- Daily lunch, snack and field trips.
- Counselor consults by appointment, during post-camp hours.
- Mid-camp meeting with parents.
- End-of-camp written report that can be shared with the camper’s school and service providers.
- Professional resources and support, such as psychopharmacology, occupational therapy and speech and language specialists, which are available for consultation on an as-needed basis.

Camp New Connections is operated by highly skilled, experienced and compassionate professionals who work collaboratively with family members to ensure the highest quality, most appropriate care. The camp is directed by Roya Ostovar, PhD, and supervised by Jacintha McLaughlin, PhD, camp coordinator, and Jill Bloom, BS, camp intake coordinator. Other supervisory staff includes Joseph Gold, MD, clinical director of McLean's Child and Adolescent Program (CAP), and Cynthia Kaplan, PhD, administrative director of the CAP Program.
